Furniture Upholstery Fabrics

What are Upholstery Fabrics?

Upholstery fabrics primarily serve the purpose of recovering furniture, but many of these fabrics can be used in other applications such as window treatments, bedding, pillows, contract seating, sound panels and much more.  These fabrics are woven with precision, using yarn or thread that is suitable for everyday use. Certain varieties may include latex or fabric backing to provide stability and prevent excessive stretching.

What is Upholstery Fabric Usually Made of?

Furniture upholstery fabric can be crafted from a variety of yarns and threads, which are woven or knitted into textile materials. These fibers encompass options such as cotton, linen, wool, canvas, silk, hemp, polyester, polypropylene, nylon, acrylic, and rayon. These materials are threaded onto looms and then expertly woven or knitted to create upholstery fabric.

Once the upholstery fabric is woven, it is often reinforced with a backing material, which could be latex, adhesive, or other textiles. This serves to enhance the fabric’s stability, contributing to its long-term durability and resistance to abrasion. Notably, some upholstery fabrics are intentionally left without a backing, as they are designed for use in slipcovers. Fabrics lacking backing have more flexibility and can move with ease, in contrast to backed fabrics that exhibit greater resistance to stretching and slouching when applied to furniture permanently.

Leon’s Fabrics’ furniture upholstery fabrics are made from premier quality yarns and threads, guaranteed to provide you with the best results for your project. We strive to offer you first quality goods with our knowledge and expertise.

Made in Italy, Cortina 3006 is a high-end aniline pull-up leather from premium North European hides, the leather has a translucent glaze magnifying the natural beauty of leather. The somewhat rustic character of this very charming high end leather reminds one of lacquer applied to fine wood grain, bringing out the depth and beauty of the hide. The look is further complimented by the dramatic pull up effect and its beautiful round luxurious smoothness. The leather creates a warm comforting feel with a dramatic effect. Natural markings enhance the natural beauty of this leather, adding to its classic yet natural character. Cortina has not been altered beyond hair removal. A true full grain aniline leather is the most genuine type of leather, as it retains all of the original texture and markings of the original hide. Inherent shade variations associated with the tanning and dyeing of this elegant protected aniline leather only enhances its sensational visual appeal. Visible wrinkles, insect-bites, brands and scars from healed wounds add to the character of the leather and should be incorporated in every furniture piece made from Cortina.
